Rae Sremmurd is an American hip hop duo originating from Tupelo, Mississippi formed by brothers, Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi. In 2013, they signed a record deal with Mike Will Made-It’s EarDrummers imprint. The group released their debut album SremmLife in January 2015, which went on to sell over 1,000,000 copies in the US and was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Their sophomore album, SremmLife 2 was released in August 2016. They also created their own label, SremmLife Crew, the same year. The name “Rae Sremmurd” is derived from their home label, EarDrummers, by spelling each word backwards.
The duo are best known for their single “Black Beatles” from SremmLife 2, which peaked at number 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 while also charting internationally in the top ten in many countries, and the platinum singles “No Type”, “No Flex Zone”, and “Throw Sum Mo” from their first album.
